Cobleskill – The publishers of The Weekly Marketplace Community Newspaper have announced that it is ending publication of a weekly printed version of the paper. According to owner Steven Crapser, plans are to continue publishing a monthly ” Weekly Marketplace Buyers Guide” which will be in a magazine format that will focus on featured business stories, clip out coupons and display advertising of area businesses.
The decision was made due to rising printing and mailing costs along with a down turn in the economy. “Rising fuel prices and other factors have put a severe strain on consumers and has directly affected shopping habits,” said Crapser. “The increased role of the internet and the way people receive information has greatly changed marketing methods” he added. The paper’s website www.weeklymarketplace.net will still remain a valuable resource for local news, community events and classifieds. Today’s technology enables us to provide fresh and updated information to users who are searching for locals things of interest, places to shop and sell their merchandise.
The new monthly magazine style edition is scheduled to debut on September 6th. It will be direct mailed free to all residents in Schoharie County. The publication will also be available on newsstands in surrounding areas. The Weekly Marketplace office is located at 327 West Main St. in Cobleskill, next to City Glass and is open M-F 9 to 5PM.
